Assessment
Select and use appropriate measuring tools to accurately gather, manipulate, and communicate information.
- Use magnetic and combination squares.
- Use ruler/scale and tape measure.
- Draw basic shop/working drawings using welding symbols.
ü Affix magnetic angle block to base metal to hold adjoining metal to weld at the correct angle.
ü Use combination square in order to clamp adjoining metal for welding to the correct angle.
ü Use a 12” ruler/scale or tape measure for appropriate length or dimension.
ü Compare project to project print using proper dimensions and welding symbols.
Exhibit the safe and proper selection, use and maintenance of technical equipment, materials, and processes.
- Use safety precautions when working with oxyacetylene, arc welding and oxyacetylene, plasma cutting.
- Choose the correct method of application for the process involved in regards to the properties of the base metal.
- Perform basic repair and maintenance on the welding equipment.
ü Pass safety test for each method of application with a 90% or better. (OAW, SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW)
ü Demonstrate four welding test positions on fillet and groove welds.
ü Demonstrate good housekeeping on welders and shop area.
Demonstrate an awareness of career opportunities and requirements needed to make informed and meaningful choices in their education/employment in technical occupations.
- Understand that there are many occupations in the welding career.
- Reflect on videos and guest speaker’s career opportunities.
- Acknowledge the skills required for a welding occupation.
ü Write a short essay on one of the many welding occupations of your choice.
ü Complete film review/guest speaker questionnaire on videos and presentations.
ü Include welding qualifications in welding occupation essay.
Design, develop, manage, and evaluate activities using identified problem-solving techniques.
- Create one or more projects utilizing drawings, measuring tools, and different welding methods and techniques.
ü Project evaluation consist of methods, techniques, print, weld penetration, alloy type, and aesthetics.
