    AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, and OCTOBER

All classes are up and running for the year!

All classes are tackling the summer reading of Divergent by Veronica Roth and "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut.   Honors English will also tackle Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow in addition to exploring Joseph Campell's concept of the Hero with a Thousand Faces.

From here, classes will move into a short story unit featuring "The Most Dangerous Game," "The Leap," "The Cask of Amontillado," and "The Lady of the Tiger."

Vocabulary from Classical Roots begins and Literary Journals have begun with terms such as allusion, polysyndeton, asyndeton, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, and understatment (meiosis).

    NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, and JANUARY

    Second quarter is underway!

    JANUARY, FEBRUARY, and MARCH

The third quarter brings with it the research paper for students.  We have been visited by the school librarian, Mrs. Patrice Campbell, who helped students find valuable and reliable sources for material.  Students have gone on to take their notes and are working on their topic outlines.  Students have been provided with paper and electronic graphic organizers.  Next steps include two drafts before the final draft is due in March.   Students must receive a grade of 75% or better on the final draft of the paper to pass ninth grade English for the year.  I am available for help during advisory time and by appointment after school.
