2. RSA 91-A:3 II © Parent
Request: K.
Dassau explained that it had been brought to his attention that a student
attending MRHS has been living in Winchester
for the past two years. The student originally lived within the district. The
parent signed the residency verification form stating that the family was
residing within the district. This was
not true. Attorney Moran suggested seeking reimbursement from the parents. K.
Dassau explained that the MRSD would receive the tuition payment but determine
the cost to the town. R. Smith asked if there is a legal violation. K. Dassau
commented that it is called “unjust enrichment.”. P. Peterson suggested sending
a letter to the parent and letting her know that this is fraud. She also
suggested sending a list of names to the selectmen of the towns to verify the
students. R.Smith would agree with C. Dreyfuss and allow the student to
graduate. E. Jacod commented that the parent might be liable in a lawsuit if
someone chooses to pursue it. K. Cota would like a list of the students from
Roxbury attending Monadnock. MOTION: R.
Smith MOVED to give K. Dassau the
authority to aggressively pursue and seek reimbursement to the District. SECOND: P. Peterson. DISCUSSION: K. Goodenough suggested
letting the parent know that the Board could hold the diploma. Some members of
the Board did not agree. G. White suggested that K. Dassau negotiate with the
parent. VOTE: 12.342/0/0/2.658. Motion passes.
