                                                           May 6, 2008

                                         Emerson Elementary, Fitzwilliam, NH  

 

Present: Karen Cota, Susan Oerman, Phyllis Peterson, Jane Fortson, Gene White, Ed Jacod, Kristin Goodenough, Robert Smith, D. Lyman, Winston Wright, James Carnie and Colline Dreyfuss

Also present: K. Dassau, Superintendent, K.Chambers, Business Manager, D. Hodgdon, Assistant Superintendent and L. Aivaliotis, Recording Secretary.

 

1. RSA 91-A:3 II © Parent Request: April French has requested that her daughter who attends Mt.Caesar be able to continue for the remainder of the school year. The family has moved out of town. MOTION: C. Dreyfuss MOVED to accept the request from April French and allow her daughter to attend Mt.Caesar for the remainder of the school year. SECOND: P. Peterson. VOTE: 12.342/0/0/2.658. Motion passes.

 

2. RSA 91-A:3 II © Parent Request: K. Dassau explained that it had been brought to his attention that a student attending MRHS has been living in Winchester for the past two years. The student originally lived within the district. The parent signed the residency verification form stating that the family was residing within the district.  This was not true. Attorney Moran suggested seeking reimbursement from the parents. K. Dassau explained that the MRSD would receive the tuition payment but determine the cost to the town. R. Smith asked if there is a legal violation. K. Dassau commented that it is called “unjust enrichment.”. P. Peterson suggested sending a letter to the parent and letting her know that this is fraud. She also suggested sending a list of names to the selectmen of the towns to verify the students. R.Smith would agree with C. Dreyfuss and allow the student to graduate. E. Jacod commented that the parent might be liable in a lawsuit if someone chooses to pursue it. K. Cota would like a list of the students from Roxbury attending Monadnock. MOTION: R. Smith MOVED to give K. Dassau the authority to aggressively pursue and seek reimbursement to the District. SECOND: P. Peterson. DISCUSSION: K. Goodenough suggested letting the parent know that the Board could hold the diploma. Some members of the Board did not agree. G. White suggested that K. Dassau negotiate with the parent. VOTE: 12.342/0/0/2.658. Motion passes.   

 

MOTION: C. Dreyfuss MOVED to leave the non-public session to enter public session. SECOND: P. Peterson. VOTE: 12.342/0/0/2.658. Motion passes.
